The Shoprite Group of Companies is Africa’s largest food retailer. The group operates a total of 2 738 outlets in 15 countries across the continent, as well as on the Indian Ocean islands, and employ more than 146 000 people.
The company reported its interim results for the period ending 31 December 2018 on the 26th of February. Like for like sales decreased by 2.7% to R 75.8bn, diluted headline earnings per share including hyperinflation declined by 24.1% and an interim dividend of 155 cents (20181H : 205 cents) was declared.
At the time of writing, Shoprite traded on a forward PE of 19.9 and a dividend yield of 2.47% (Bloomberg consensus).
