On 6 May 2021, Volkswagen released its first-quarter results for the period ending 31 March 2021. The group’s positive momentum in the second half of 2020 continued into 2021 as the company reported a strong financial performance for the first quarter. Group revenue increased by 13.3% to €62.4bn (Q1 2020: €55.1bn). Operating profit increased significantly by €3.9bn during the period to €4.8 billion in 2021. Operating margin improved to 7.7% (Q1 2020: 1.6%). The company reported earnings of €6.45 per share (Q1 2020: €0.78).
The company significantly increased its vehicle deliveries by 21.2% to 2.4 million vehicles compared to 2 million vehicle deliveries over the same period in 2020.
Volkswagen is trading on a forward price to earnings ratio of 7.64. Relative to peers, Volkswagen appears to be offering value.
